Minerals And Mining (Health, Safety And Technical Regulations, 2012) (L.I. 2182)Regulation 268A manager of a mine shall in relation to the mine ensure that (a) seepage through embankments are monitored by piezometer holes which are drilled into the embankments and in the case of an embankment(i) of thirty metres length, the piezometer hole is installed at the middle of the crest;(ii) which is longer than thirty metres but less than one hundred and twenty metres there are two piezometer holes;(iii) which is longer than one hundred and twenty metres but less than two hundred and forty metres there are three piezometer holes; and(iv) which is longer than two hundred and forty metres there are piezometer holes at a distance of not more than thirty metres from the side of the embankment and not more than sixty metres between two neighbouring piezometer holes; and (b) additional monitoring holes are drilled at appropriate distances around any tailings storage facility to monitor seepage from the tailings into the groundwater. |
