Ghana Shipping (Maritime Labour) Regulations, 2015 (L.I. 2226)Regulation 2(1) A shipowner shall not operate a ship unless the ship has been issued with a valid(a) Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance; and(b) Maritime Labour Certificate.(2) A shipowner who contravenes sub regulation (1) commits an offence and is liable Regulation 1These Regulations apply to(a) a Ghanaian registered ship which is engaged in commercial activities, except where that ship is(i) engaged in fishing,(ii) a warship or naval ship, or(iii) a ship exempted by the Director-General;(b) a seafarer if the seafarer does not belong to the categories of persons exempted by the Director-General and specified in a Maritime Circular; and(c) a seafarer recruitment and placement service registered and licensed in this country.on summary conviction to a fine of not less than five hundred penalty units and not more than one thousand penalty units or a term of imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than four years or to both the fine and the term of imprisonment. |
